Lush Cosmetics: Bath Bomb Haul

Lush Cosmetics

In a change to the usual travel posts, I’ve decided to ‘explore’ some of Lush Cosmetics’ new Mother’s Day and Easter bath bombs, along with much older favourites!

Lush Cosmetics

Atom Heart Mother

Let’s start with a bath bomb from the Mother’s Day line, specifically the one that looks like the ‘Toy Story’ wallpaper… ‘Atom Heart Mother’.

As a lover of all things citrus, this one is right up my street! Filled with bergamot, neroli and Brazilian orange oils, this one smells delightful!

In terms of its appearance, I loved the intricate detailing of the clouds around the blue. I was surprised to see the water turn pink though, but I’m guessing that’s to make it look more rosey (as rose absolute is another ingredient).

Lush Cosmetics

Mother of Pearl

This is my favourite from this haul because it reminds me of my mum. If my mum could be a bathbomb, she’d be ‘Mother of Pearl’.

The scent of this one is pure jasmine / gardenia, both of which are my mum’s top two flowers. Surprisingly, no jasmine or gardenia was used in the making of this… Instead, it featured ylang ylang oil, vanilla absolute, illipe butter, and organic rose hip oil.

Off-white, covered in glitter and pearl-like in appearance, this bath-bomb made the water milky.

Lush Cosmetics

Flamingo Egg

Now for my Easter selection… ‘The Flamingo Egg’ is the one I was most excited about to begin with, then I became sceptical after reading the mixed reviews on the website (and as ever, I clicked ‘pay securely’ before checking!)

Described as “candy” scented, I can’t say it was. Although the fragrance was strong, I am struggling to describe it apart from using words like ‘chemical soap’. Maybe I had a bad batch?

In terms of the ingredients, this one was apparently filled with vetivert oil, coarse sea salt, and Sicilian lemon oil. I’m sure you’ll agree, this is by far the craziest combination… I feel like Lush scientists went mad while making this one in their soap laboratory.

The positives about Lush Cosmetics’ Flamingo Egg bath bomb are: the aesthetic – its geode effect, and the way it turned the water pastel bluey teal before gradually settled at a purple once the pink (top half) got dissolved.

I just really didn’t like the smell, nor the ingredients overall (apart from the Sicilian orange, ofc). Weirdly, I later found out that ‘vetivert’ is used in masculine fragrances?!I’ll never understand why Lush Cosmetics decided to include this into a bath-bomb with a predominately female demographic.

A lot of reviews mentioned that this bath bomb turned the reviewers’ light hair pink, I can’t comment on that as I’m brunette… Others said it left their skin looking pink, I didn’t notice this either.

Lush Cosmetics

The Owl and the Pussycat

This is a limited edition 3-in-1, inspired by the famous poemThe Owl and the Pussycat’. Say ‘hello’ to the cute blue cat, yellow owl and green boat… As far as Lush Cosmetics colour combinations go, this is one of the wildest.

Ingredients of this bath bomb include: gardenia extract, ‘wobble wobble’ (also known as: carrageenan extract) which made me laugh, agar agar and ‘floating on pea pods’. As made up as most of these ingredients sound, they’re actually real!

This one is super cute, it reminds me of ‘Love Boat’ – which is my all time favourite Valentine’s Day bath bomb, I’d say. Back to the bath bomb at hand, it turned my bath water mint green.

Lush Cosmetics

Dragon’s Egg

Speaking of Lush Cosmetics’ Easter range, this is the perfect time to reveal my favourite bath bomb of theirs that ever existed, ‘Dragon’s Egg’.

This one needs no introduction, it’s unarguably the best citrussy bath bomb out there! Ingredients include lemon oil, bergamot oil, jasmine absolute, and popping candy.

Bizarrely, I actually fell asleep in the bath – even though its scent is one of the most intense. I love the smooth & silkiness of my skin post-bath, from rubbing the multi-colour creamy leftover floaty bits into my skin.

Lush Cosmetics went all-out with this one, there’s even a yolk-y coloured centre, I just love it – it’s like a non-edible white chocolate Cadbury’s creme egg.

Lush Cosmetics

Deep Sleep

Deep Sleep’ is a bath bomb that I’ve reviewed on here before, prior to wiping all my old posts. I’m super gutted that it had to go, but as I’ve explained previously – I recently switched to an SEO plan, and most of my 64 posts weren’t SEO’d. The length of time it’d take to SEO them all?! Let’s just say it felt like I’d be there until I retire…

Ingredients of this bath bomb include lavender flowers, together with lavender and neroli oils. This is a basket staple of mine because I often get insomnia, so the soothing lavender chills me out before bed.

The lavender flowers are uniquely wrapped in the type of material which makes tote bags, and secured in place with a purple thick paper ribbon.

Before you ask, yes – Prince’s ‘Purple Rainwas playing on loop, as I lay in the purple water.

What’s next on my Lush Cosmetics list? ‘Melusine’, ‘The Sleeping Giant’, ‘Follow the Rabbit’ and ‘Rose Gold’.

Etsy – Local Businesses: FairyMoonCandlesUK

Following on from my newly written local businesses post, I’d like to re-post my favourite local business: FairyMoonCandlesUK.

(I have re-branded my blog, so I wanted to re-write my favourite posts to reflect that)

Pandora’s FairyMoonCandlesUK is a small Mancunian business which I discovered on Etsy.

Head Fairy, Pandora, makes beautiful handcrafted soy wax candles that are vegan and eco-friendly.

Before I delve deeper, I want to start by saying that FairyMoonCandlesUK combines everything I love in a candle: floral, healing crystals and fragrance.

ccc

GUARDIAN ANGEL CANDLE

The ‘Guardian Angel’ candle is a refreshing citrus-scented candle…

I love everything about it, from the fragrance, scattered rose petals and sequins to the citrine & clear Quartz centrepieces. Simply sublime!

If lemon isn’t your thing, there are other varieties that are just as stunning. All types can be found here.

In terms of packaging, the candle arrived very well wrapped in tissue paper, and tied together securely with a neat bow.

It’s fair to mention that I gifted this candle to my boyfriend’s mum last Christmas, he relayed her message: “she absolutely loves it! Super lemony, gorgeous too, thanks!

My mum also gifted a couple to her friends, this candle, to which their response was: “how unique! It’s very authentic.” / “it’s lovely, thank you! The stones in there are a great touch.” / “it goes perfectly with the decor [the recipient owns a beauty salon]”

‘ENCHANTED’ CANDLE

Moving onto ‘Enchanted’ (pictured at the top), this is one of FairyMoonCandlesUK’s bestsellers!

This candle is lavender scented, and features a rose Quartz centrepiece. For those of you who don’t know, rose Quartz is the stone of unconditional (and universal) love.

The lavender is very fragrant but soothing all the same. Its relaxing properties make it easy to see why it’s such a bestseller.

The presentation and packaging of ‘Enchanted’ was identical to that of ‘Guardian Angel’. It arrived in a metal pot with a see-through plastic lid showcasing the stunning candle in all its glory.

Similarly to ‘Guardian Angel’, the silver sequins, mini raw clear quartz pieces and dried rose petals were a standard – this time, paired with a light dusting of lavender and a rose quartz statement piece.

Next on my list is FairyMoonCandleUK’s Moonlight candle (including Moonstone), followed by Sweet Dreams (featuring Amethyst).

It would be a dream to partner with FairyMoonCandles on scents & crystal combination ideas of my own.

Pandora, thank you very much from the bottom of my heart for bringing joy to so many. Your candles and concepts are amazing!

Small Business Spotlight: 7Marvels

7marvels

I’m excited to launch and bring you my ‘Small Business Spotlight’ series… 🙌🏼

Each week, I’ll be introducing you to a new business! This is the first instalment, and what better way to start than with 7Marvels – an independent home/online bakery based in Richmond Upon Thames?!

I got the chance to ask the wonderful Cristina Popescu, founder, director and head baker of 7Marvels, some questions and you can read the full interview below…

7marvels
Cristina Popescu, founder of 7Marvels

Tell us a little bit about yourself & your small business: ‘7Marvels’

CP: I’m a homebaker based in Richmond Upon Thames. I started 7Marvels two years ago.

A fun little fact about my business is that I made the decision to start it at our annual street party in 2018!

Here is a link to my website for more information about me and my passion for baking

7marvels
Macaron Stack

Why did you decide to open your small business?

CP: Since a very young age I’ve always been passionate about cooking and baking in particular but I never really took my passion up until recently when I started my baking business.

It originally started as a macaron business but later went on to be a bakery with a myriad of different treats (birthday cakes, celebratory cakes and french pastries)!

7marvels

What are your hopes for the future?

CP: I am so grateful for the fact that I am able to do what I love for a living; and so with that said I hope that my business carries on to thrive and flourish in the coming years.

As we all know, Covid has hit most small businesses hard… So, this next part of the interview with Cristina at 7Marvels delves into how Covid restrictions and these past lockdowns have affected her home business.

7marvels

How has 7Marvels been affected by COVID?

CP: I am lucky enough to have been able to stay open amidst those uncertain and turbulent times.

Having an online-only shop has helped me in various ways to stay open and carry on making cakes; I was able to bring a smile to people’s faces with my cakes and pastries which matters a lot to me.

7marvels
Mille-Feuille

How has your business had to adapt since COVID?

CP: Having a business open during Covid has to a certain extent confirmed my initial decision of opening an online shop in spite of having a cake shop on the high street.

Have you noticed any changes in your business (sales etc.) since the COVID lockdowns?

CP: I have noticed changes in customer tendencies as they are more inclined to buy online.

7marvels

What advice would you give other small business owners – or those looking to start one?

CP: Get all the resources and equipment needed to start an online business alongside with the rest. I believe that e-commerce is becoming progressively more powerful and prosperous than it was before.

The most important thing is to do what you love and be passionate about it, and you need to have the resilience and determination to carry on with it even if it gets difficult. Your love and devotion will be apparent in what you do and the customers will become recurring ones.

There you have it… Luckily for Cristina, Covid hasn’t affected her business, as it was very much online-based to begin with.

A massive thanks again to Cristina for giving up her time to do this interview, and for giving some awesome advice for self-starters too. What a sweetheart! 🥰

7Marvels’ cakes/bakes look 😍😋 incrEDIBLE! (you’re welcome! 🎤⬇️)

Here’s an added bonus, Cristina’s business caters for most dietary requirements, offering treats that are vegan, low-sugar, eggless and gluten-free! What’s not to love about some delicious guilt-free goodies!?

I’m planning on ordering one for my birthday this year, and I cannot wait! Judging by how quickly last year went, I’ll be 30 at the blink of an eye!

There’s lots to come in this series… So watch out for more interviews with small businesses in the coming weeks. I’ve got everything from crystals stockists, candle makers, hairdressers and beauty salons! ✨

Shop Small: ‘Enchanted’ by FairyMoonCandlesUK

shop small

I’m back with another ‘shop small’ post, and again with FairyMoonCandlesUK. This time, it’s the turn of ‘Enchanted’ (a bestseller)!

Yep, I am obsessed – but also: it was a gift from the wonderful Pandora, (as a thank you for my previous review of ‘Guardian Angel’).

Tell me more about FairyMoonCandlesUK

FairyMoonCandlesUK is a small business operating from Manchester, England. It’s owned by Head-Fairy Pandora! 🧚

All products from this Etsy store are handmade by Pandora herself, organically sourced, vegan and eco-friendly.

What does FairyMoonCandlesUK sell?

The clue is in the name… FairyMoonCandlesUK produces and sells a variety of scented soy wax crystal candles. 💎🕯

With Valentine’s / Galentine’s / Self-Lovingtine’s Day around the corner, this would be the perfect gift! 🎁

Tell me more about the ‘Enchanted’ candle

‘Enchanted’ is a lavender scented rose-quartz candle. As I’ve mentioned previously, rose quartz is the stone of unconditional and universal love…

The aroma of lavender is nicely potent, but soothing. You can keep it open in your room as you sleep. 💤

shop small

What’s the packaging of ‘Enchanted’ like?

The ‘Enchanted’ candle came packed in the same way as ‘Guardian Angel’ (the citrine candle I bought las year).

It arrived wrapped in gift paper, tied securely with a cute bow. Also, the bubble wrap underneath (protecting the candle) is biodegradable – so that’s a plus. 🌎 ♻️

In terms of the candle itself, it was identical to ‘Guardian Angel’ in the way it’s presented, inside a metal pot with a transparent plastic lid, showing off the stunning candle.

Let’s talk about the aesthetic of ‘Enchanted’

Like ‘Guardian Angel’, the silver sequins, mini raw clear quartz pieces and dried rose petals are a standard – joined by a light dusting of lavender and a rose quartz statement piece. 🌹✨

I hugely regret lighting my ‘Guardian Angel’ candle last time! So, I’ve learned my lesson.

What’s next on my FairyMoonCandles list?

I’ll continue to shop small with FairyMoonCandlesUK (and other Etsy stores).

Next on my list is FairyMoonCandleUK’s Moonlight candle (including Moonstone), followed by Sweet Dreams (featuring Amethyst). I also plan on re-buying ‘Guardian Angel’ at some point too!

Pandora, thank you very much from the bottom of my heart. Wishing you a successful & prosperous 2021! ✨

Plant-based Hair-Dye: Naturtint

plant-based

Another day, another blog post… I’ve pre-written and scheduled this one, for the first time ever… Who do I think I am, Zoella!?!?

Anyway, here it goes…

Enjoy! Follow. Like. Subscribe. Do it!

You guys seem to love all the plant-based vegan posts, so allow me to introduce or re-introduce you to Naturtint, my forever go to vegan-box dye!

Reasons why I love Naturtint: it’s so good, leaves my hair healthy, feeling soft and looking shiny… It also doesn’t damage the hair, and is easy to get hold of (if you live near a Holland & Barrett – which I think is why God planned for me to live in this current abode).

Anyway, let’s get back to the ‘post’ at hand… Naturtint.

Tell me more about this plant-based hair dye

ICYMI: Naturtint is plant based, and packed with a lot of goodness! It’s ammonia-free, meaning less risk on the chemical reaction front.

Disclaimer: I’d still recommend a patch test just to be sure other ingredients don’t react.

I was born with brown hair & a red tint (which appears when out in the sun).

After bleaching my hair blonde the first time a few years ago, Naturtint was my saving grace!

My hair was literally as flimsy as an elastic band. If it wasn’t for Naturtint, I honestly might have had to shave it all off! 😱

My verdict of this plant-based hair dye

I covered the bleach blonde with dark brown, using this range. It made my hair feel healthy instantly and look incredibly shiny.

However, being someone who’s addicted to change, I bleached it again (balayage) a couple of years later.

After my hair started fading into brassy tones, relied on this to dye it back to brown. (Yes, I know about purple/blue shampoo, but it’s damaging)

To be honest, all I wanted was to get rid of my dark hair, so the greys didn’t look so contrasting when they started popping through! But, I also wanted a colour that was dark enough to cover my greys too… I thought it was impossible until now.

As per my old interchanging-self, I did balayage again towards the end of COVID lockdown, but this time it went brassy very, very quickly. Like, I’m talking within days!!

As I didn’t want to get rid of the hard work that my hairdresser done, I chose this dark blonde/very light brown dye to cover the brassy bits and it worked a treat.

After a little research, I found out that I can use it as an all over colour, covering my roots too.

So, ya gal is now GOLDEN CHESTNUT! OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE ORDER, NOT EVEN ‘DIS-‘!!! 😍
